Overview
The first part of Robotic Planets, produced as my CGBoost final under instructor Louis du Mont. Built in Blender, it's a short character animation of a novice robot testing flight. Designed to showcase clear posing, timing/anticipation, and an end-to-end pipeline (concept → animation → comp).
On a tiny world, a hopeful robot fumbles, learns, and finally lifts off.
Goals
-
Deliver a concise, charming short where a novice robot attempts flight and communicates a clear learning arc.
-
Showcase fundamentals (readable silhouettes, posing, timing/anticipation, simple acting beats).
-
Demonstrate an end-to-end pipeline in Blender (concept → layout/blocking → polish → render → edit/sound).
My Role
-
End-to-end ownership: concept, story outline & shot list, references, and shot planning.
-
Modeling & Lookdev: micro-planet set, prop tweaks, and stylized/readable shader setup.
-
Rigging/Prep: character rig selection/adaptation, control cleanup, and export settings.
-
Layout & Animation: blocking (stepped), spline pass, polish on timing/anticipation/overlap, and camera choreography.
-
Lighting & Rendering: key/fill/rim for clarity, Eevee settings (contact shadows, SSAO, bloom), render management.
-
Post & Sound: edit, grade, and SFX/music in DaVinci Resolve.
